Are you embarrassed to smile? Porcelain veneers are thin, customized shells that bond directly to the front of teeth. These porcelain shells veneershave become very popular due to their versatility. Dr. Monica Neshat and Dr. Joy Jang are some of the finest dentists in Reston, VA. Read on to learn about the versatility of veneers.

1. Cover Crooked Teeth

Porcelain veneers are effective in covering up flaws and giving patients the appearance of a perfect smile. Crooked teeth can make people feel self-conscious about their appearance and affect their self-esteem. Dentists use porcelain veneers to improve teeth that are crooked.

2. Whiten Stained Teeth

Pigments from dark-colored foods and beverages and tobacco use can cause permanent stains on your teeth. Other things that can affect tooth color include environmental factors, infections, and diseases that are present at birth. Dental veneers can give you a whiter, brighter smile. This approach allows you to improve the color and shape of your teeth at the same time.

3. Fix Gapped Teeth

Gaps usually appear between the two upper front teeth. However, a gap can occur between any two teeth. Many people feel self-conscious about the gaps in their smile. Porcelain veneers are routinely used to fix spaces between the teeth. These porcelain shells fit snugly over the surface of your front teeth to create an evenly-spaced smile.

4. Restore Chipped Teeth

Falling or biting down on something hard can cause a tooth to chip. If you discover you have chipped a tooth, don't panic. Your Reston, VA, dentist can use a porcelain veneer to restore your chipped tooth. A porcelain veneer can make your chipped tooth look whole and healthy again.

5. Cover Worn-Down Teeth

Friction, wear and tear, stress, and corrosion causes erosion of the tooth surface. Chewing, brushing aggressively, and teeth grinding can wear your teeth down. Your dentist can repair your worn-down teeth through the use of porcelain veneers. These shells essentially replace tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers are less likely to wear down than real teeth.

Porcelain veneers have helped many people enhance their smiles, boosting their self-esteem and enhancing their lives. And it will do the same for you! Don't wait another minute- call Reston Family and Cosmetic Dentistry at (703) 437-5555 now to schedule a consultation in Reston, VA. It's never too late for a beautiful smile.

Get a New Smile with Dental Veneers in Reston, VA

Veneers are an ideal dental treatment because they are minimally invasive, and improve the appearance and, in some cases, the function of a damaged tooth, without drastically altering the characteristics that make your smile unique. Made of a wafer thin layer of dental porcelain, veneers are designed by your dentist to match the color and texture of your natural teeth, for a realistic and subtle finish. They can be used to change the size, shape, color, and small spaces and gaps between teeth.

Who Should Get Porcelain Veneers?

If you are unhappy with how your teeth look, veneers can help to improve the aesthetic quality of your smile. Some people get veneers to cover stains and discolorations that can't be removed with teeth whitening treatments like bleaching. One of the most common reasons to get veneers is to fix cracked, chipped, or uneven teeth. Accidents, sports injuries, falls, or biting down into hard food or candy are generally the most common causes of cosmetic tooth damage. But involuntary habits like grinding your teeth in your sleep, or the effects of the aging process, which naturally causes tooth enamel to thin and erode over time, can all affect the quality of your smile. Veneers can reverse the damage quickly and affordably, with lasting results.

Porcelain veneers, or dental laminates, are one of today's most popular cosmetic dental improvements. Appropriate for older teens through adults in their senior years, veneers are a minimally-invasive, comfortable treatment that address imperfections on one or moreVeneers healthy teeth.

Custom-designed according to patient need and preference by Drs. Monica A. Neshat and Joy C. Jang of Reston Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, porcelain veneers are super thin shells of tooth-colored ceramic. They fit over the front surface of one or more teeth, permanently bonded in place and adjusted for best bite and fit. While there is a period of adjustment after veneer placement, patients find they quickly learn to care for and eat and speak with laminates.

At Reston Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, Doctors Monica A. Neshat and Joy C. Jang expertly design and install porcelain laminates on teeth with:

  • crowding and overlapping issues
  • gaps
  • chips
  • minor cracks
  • discolorations from age, injury, prescription medicine, dark beverages and foods, smoking and chewing tobacco

Getting Veneers

Drs. Neshat and Jang first thoughtfully evaluate patients to determine if veneers are appropriate. Using modern imaging techniques and visual examination, they ensure teeth and gums are decay and disease-free. With the patient, she then builds a treatment plan, incorporating best aesthetic design and patient goals. The dentist prepares the teeth by shaving a small amount of enamel off the front of each tooth. She also sends oral impressions to an outside lab that will craft the laminates.

At the next visit, the doctor cements the veneers in place and fine-tunes bite, color, shape and fit. The patient may notice their teeth come together differently, and their speech may change a little, too.

Adjusting to Veneers

How long does it take to adjust to veneers? Most patients say it takes about 2 weeks for speech, eating and bite to normalize. Sensitivity to heat, cold and pressure goes away gradually, too.

Tips for proper care include:

  • avoiding hard foods such as candy apples, peanut brittle and ice
  • use of a quality fluoride toothpaste and regular dental floss
  • rinsing with warm salt water if gums feel sore
  • wearing a night mouth guard if teeth clenching or grinding are problematic
  • getting semi-annual exams and cleanings at Reston Family & Cosmetic Dentistry
  • limiting staining foods and beverages and quitting tobacco use

While veneers are very durable, accidents do happen. If a laminate pops off, chips or fractures, call the dental office right away for advice on what to do.

Enjoy Your New Smile

With good care, Reston veneers last for years. Most patients need time to adjust to just how beautiful their new smiles look!
