Reston Family & Cosmetic Dentistry continues to serve the Reston, VA community with quality dental care. One of the most common problems that patients come to the office to have resolved is missing teeth. If the patient wants a permanent solution for tooth loss, a dental implant is the typical recommendation.

The Initial Exam
Before your dentist can perform an implant procedure, a full dental examination must be completed including X-rays. The bone tissue in your mouth must be sufficient to accept and support the implant for a long period of time. If there are any potential concerns that need to be addressed, like an infection of the gums, they will be identified during this exam.

The Implantation Surgery
Once your Reston dentist approves you for dental implants, the next step is the implantation surgery, during which the titanium implant will be carefully placed into the jawbone. Osseointegration then begins, which is the process through which bone tissue grows around the implant, integrating it into your jaw. The process can take anywhere from two to six months.

Adding the Tooth Restoration
Once your dental implant has fully settled in your jaw, it’s ready for a permanent tooth replacement. Your dentist will take a dental impression that will be used to create a custom crown. The crown is perfectly crafted to fit comfortably between your other teeth, and is attached to the top part of the dental implant (also called an abutment). After this final appointment, it’s up to you to prioritize good oral care to ensure that your new tooth stays in place for many years to come.

Start at the Beginning
The very first step to getting your dental implants is to call Reston Family & Cosmetic Dentistry at (703) 437-5555 for an initial consultation. You can rest assured that the dentists here have “your best interest in mind” and are committed to helping you get the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted.
